Tiny homes are an increasingly popular alternative housing solution for many reasons. Apart from the obvious cost savings, lower energy consumption, and portability, these pint-sized dwellings offer many environmental and lifestyle advantages. They are perfect for those looking for a simpler way of life with a reduced footprint and more independence.
And with the tiny living movement continuing to grow, more and more builders are taking on the challenge of creating the most efficient and comfortable compact living space. Guthrie, Oklahoma-based Cornerstone Tiny Homes is one of them, and their Atwood design stands out with its lightweight construction, impressive solar system, and luxury amenities.

Cornerstone Tiny Homes is a small family-owned and operated business founded in 2017 by a couple who found freedom in a compact house on wheels crafted by themselves. Their personal experience motivated them to start building high-quality, small-footprint houses for other tiny living enthusiasts.

They only have a handful of models in their portfolio, but their builds stand out with their modern designs and lightweight construction. All the houses coming out of their shed are built using fiberglass SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels), a great thermal insulator that makes the builds energy-efficient and cost-effective. The builder also claims that its homes on wheels are the lightest on the market due to these panels.

Perched on a triple-axle trailer, Atwood is a simple yet beautiful tiny home that includes all the comforts of conventional residences within its compact footprint, plus some luxurious features ranging from a marble shower to a state-of-the-art audio/video system. It is a fully off-grid unit that was custom-built for a solar engineer, so it’s no wonder that it is equipped with advanced off-grid technology, including an impressive solar system coupled with great battery storage and a rainwater collection system.

This means that this adorable home not only collects its own power from the sun and powers all the systems year-round but also harvests rainwater and diverts it into a freshwater tank for domestic use. The integrated off-grid technology provides the owner with the freedom to live virtually anywhere without the need to rely on traditional power and water systems.

Atwood measures 28 feet (8.5 meters) in length and 8.5 feet (2.6 meters) in width and boasts an eye-pleasing exterior finished with two-tone white and gray board and batten siding and a durable metal roof. A full-light blue entrance door adds a pop of color and perfectly complements the overall modern farmhouse look.

This is a single-level tiny with an ingenious floorplan that comprises a cozy living/dining area, a well-equipped galley kitchen, a modern bathroom, and a space-saving suspended bed on an electric lift system. The interior is truly fit for an engineer, with some neat features indicating that it was designed for a tech-savvy individual. Apart from the nifty electric bed lift that will adjust the height of the bed based on the owner's needs with the push of a button, the Atwood also includes an entertainment niche built into the lounge/bedroom wall, a projector screen, and an advanced speaker system.

All the furniture inside this home is custom-made from quality pale plywood with clean sanded edges that give the living space a more genuine, natural look. It is beautifully complemented by hand-crafted solid wood bench tops for a classic look.

The built-in lounge boasts a U-shaped sofa with integrated storage and is flanked by large windows that make it incredibly bright and open. A removable table turns it into a dinette when you have guests over, enhancing the functionality of the space. What’s more, a large drawer pulls out of the wall and slots in the middle to create additional sleeping space if you add some comfy cushions.

The elevator bed is installed atop the lounge/dining area, with the projector strategically mounted right above and the projector screen above the kitchen area to allow the owner to watch movies from either the comfort of his bed or the built-in couch.

The sleek kitchen occupies the center of the house and offers the functionality of a conventional cooking space. Apart from a plethora of cupboards and drawers, there are also plenty of shelves that help keep the kitchen clutter-free and well-organized. Stainless steel appliances ranging from a large double-bowl farmhouse sink and a double-burner cooktop to a range hood and residential fridge ensure dwellers can enjoy home-cooked meals. There is plenty of counter space for meal prep on both sides, as well as a slide-out pantry for dry food.

A sizeable cabinet-free countertop section doubles as a breakfast bar for two people with boxy storage-integrated stools underneath.

Finally, the bathroom inside Atwood is surprisingly well equipped for a tiny home this size, and besides a marble shower and beautiful vanity that give it an elegant stance, it features plenty of storage space, a flush toilet, and a medicine cabinet. The inclusion of a large linen closet and washer/dryer unit means it also doubles as a laundry.

This beautiful tiny house on wheels successfully proves that small living is the right path for those who want to minimize their environmental footprint and adopt sustainable practices without having to renounce everyday comforts.
