BMW i3 Review by Autocar

After a couple of months of reviews and even sales on UK territory, the i3 mostly proved that it’s a BMW to all those non-believers out there. However, Autocar didn’t get to test the new EV up until now.
However, if you ask me, they tested the wrong car. Their version had the range-extender installed in the back, that famous 600 cc motorcycle engine that acts as a generator when your car has a low battery. While it will keep you range anxiety free it will also make your i3 heavier, slower and less eco-friendly.

Furthermore, the 9 liter tank will only get you around 100 miles more range, not nearly enough to justify its worth and downsides on the car as the total range will reach about 200 miles in a best case scenario.

No, the i3 must be had in pure EV version if you’re going to get one. You’ll get up to 120 miles of range (depending on how you drive it, of course) and you’ll never have to pay for gas again. On top of that, you’d be using the car as it was designed to, in the urban environment and with the proper specs.

On their review, Steve also claims that the car actually feels like a BMW down the road and is really engaging to drive, compared to other offerings currently on the table. Check out the video for his full thoughts on the matter.
