BMW Announces 2010 Leipzig Auto Show Highlights

{img1 align-left}As we previously reported, this year’s Auto Mobil International (AMI) show in Leipzig will see the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. The German carmaker, however, also revealed other goodies to be showcased at the show, including the first time that the new BMW 5 Series Sedan, the new BMW X5 and the new BMW 3 Series Convertible are being presented to the German public.

Moreover, BMW will be celebrating the German debut of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, as well as the BMW 535d Gran Turismo.

Scheduled to take place between April 10 - 18, the 2010 event will also see wider range of features in many other model series, innovations from BMW ConnectedDrive and attractive features and equipment from Original BMW Accessories, among the highlights.

A concept car based on the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is also being presented in Leipzig, namely the BMW Concept 5 Series ActiveHybrid. The concept reportedly marks the first ever combination of a straight-six power unit and an electric motor.

But Leipzig is not only the most important motor show of the year in Germany. For BMW, the home city of the AMI Show is also where the German carmaker builds the BMW 1 Series and the new BMW X1. The BMW Plant Leipzig has been building BMWs for five years, now employing 5,000 workers.

BMW also decided to further enhance the long-term job security in the Leipzig region by building the Megacity Vehicle with electric drive planned as part of BMW’s project i at the Leipzig Plant.

The plan is to create an integrated production network with two plants in Bavaria, important components for this innovative vehicle being built in Wackersdorf and Landshut and the car of the future then coming off the assembly line in Leipzig.
