Bentley Continental GT Le Mans Drags Flying Spur Speed, and the Unthinkable Doesn't Happen

Mat and his team at carwow are not beyond controversy – see the video of the brand-new 2024 Jeep Avenger EV that broke down while reviewed and miraculously disappeared without a trace. But no one will contest their skill and passion when they're getting down to track-based (OK, it's an abandoned airstrip) quarter-mile shenanigans.

Just look at the content they provide – just recently, we saw a $110k Tesla Model S Plaid Track Pack trying to take down a million-dollar Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, a 1,800-hp twin-turbo Lambo Huracan jousting with the bonkers Rimac Nevera EV hypercar, or the latter fighting a MotoGP bike and turbo Hayabusa, among many others!

They are also passionate about single-brand shenanigans, as it turns out. For example, we have seen stuff like a meeting of the Porsche GTs, a BMW M2 generational drag race, Audi R8 or RS battling each other, as well as one of my personal favorites – the BMW M4 CSL and M3 CS siblings duking it out like there was no tomorrow. But now, they are a bit more than their usual outrageous self.

That's because they disturbed the five o'clock tea of Bentley fans with the crazy idea that a four-door limousine should be in the business of drag racing the Bentley Continental GT Le Mans Collection! Oh, and did I forget to mention that the luxuriously crafted coupe is supposed to duke it out with the Bentley Flying Spur Speed?

As such, at least they are mostly balanced, at least on paper. For example, the Bentley Flying Spur Speed is motivated by the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine and churns out no less than 635 ponies. All the oomph is directed to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and it costs no less than £245k (over $303k). It's also a heavy little piglet, tipping the scales at a hefty 2,437 kg (5,373 pounds).

On the other side is the super-rare (less than 50 cars), limited-edition Bentley Continental GT Speed from the Le Mans Collection, which costs £330 ($409k) from the onset. It's slightly less bulky at 2,273 kg (still over 5,011 lbs.!) and subtly more potent as the 6.0-liter W12 was massaged to 659 horsepower while keeping the same level of torque (900 Nm/664 lb-ft).

The attempts kick off at the 4:33 mark after we checked out the specifications side-by-side, and although Yanni tried hard to beat Mat, the unthinkable didn't happen. However, this drag race series is still entertaining, even if only for the sheer shock value of seeing a couple of pricey Bentleys going head-to-head in an all-out quarter-mile battle.
