The Biritsh Mazda tuner Brodie Brittain Racing (BBR) is introducing a 20th Anniversary turbo conversion package for the Mk1 and Mk2 versions of the MX-5 (the previous generations of the car), celebrating the 1990 launch of the original MX-5 BBR turbo, the aftermarket company’s first MX-5 development.

The new power boost program targets both the 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines of the Mk1 and Mk2 models. The 1.6 liter unit has been tweaked to deliver 221 hp at 6,900 rpm and a peak torque of 175 lb-ft (237 Nm) at 5,100 rpm. Obviously, the 1.8 liter powerplant has been taken even further into the performance territory, but the tuner hasn’t offered the exact figures.

BBR’s in-house expertise and unrivalled experience with the Mazda MX-5 enables the firm to build upon the overwhelming success of the original 1990 150 bhp MX-5 turbo kit, updating and enhancing the design to produce a stunning, dyno proven 220 bhp plus from just 1.6-litres,” stated the press release.

The power kit is already available and retails for GBP4,995. BBR also offers the package in a DiY version, which can be yours for GBP3,995.
