For the second year in a row, German manufacturer Audi has been handed an Automotive Lean Production Award by the Automobil Produktion trade journal for the way in which it manufactures its products.
The experts which evaluated the companies that entered the competition found it best this year not to award the carmaker for a single individual production sector, but for the entire Ingolstadt production facility, the place where the Audi A4, A5 and Q5 are being manufactured.
“We use our employees’ creative ideas when designing and realizing our production system. The continuous process of improvement at Audi succeeds thanks to each and every employee’s initiative and commitment,” said Peter Kossler, Ingolstadt plant manager. “Winning the Automotive Lean Production Award once again provides recognition for our team.”
The carmaker has been given the award after the Automobil Produktion jury analyzed factors like responses to challenges presented by demographic trends, ergonomic solutions to production issues, quality and process safety.
“We always take into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of workers of different ages when we plan workstations,” Kossler added. “Efficiency is boosted if employees are given ideal conditions to work in.”
This is the fifth time the Automotive Lean Production Award is being handed. The competition is being organized by Automobil Produktion trade journal and Agamus Consult, a management consultancy agency.
This year, 60 companies were included in the competition, in five categories. Last year, Audi was declared winner of the “Manufacturer” category for the assembly line in charge with assembling the A3.
