Audi A3 Sedan and A2 Electric in the States

Audi's assault on the United States is a sure thing but nobody knows at this point which are the first of the wave of models to be launched in this side of the market. A new report by Autonews is now hinting that the brand with the four rings will launch a sedan based on the A3 in the United States, together with an electric version of the A2.

Audi's plans for the United States are still uncertain after several rumors in media around the world talked about multiple models to be launched in GM's domestic market. For example, it was initially believed that Audi will develop new and more efficient diesel engines for models sold stateside but, due to their high price, the plan has been reportedly put on hold.

Obviously, the US models will be relying on small and fuel efficient models, so an electric version of the A2 is a possible scenario. Audi confirmed earlier this year that an electric A2 is currently in the making but hasn't provided more details on a possible US launch for this particular model.

“We also want to build an electric version straight away. That has consequences. At the moment you think up a car and make it electric afterwards. With that car [the A2], things go the other way around,"
R&D chief Michael Dick said back in March.

The electric version is going to be included in the next-generation A2 which, according to company officials, will "be recognisable as an A2 but very different from the old car”. “We will not make the same mistake as with the first A2 and do it all by ourselves,” he said.
