Audi, No.1 Premium 4WD Carmaker

Believe it or not, it is not an off-road vehicle manufacturer which received the title of the world's leader in the 4WD premium segment. According to a study conducted by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the one which builds and sells the most 4WD premium vehicles is Audi.

This year, the German manufacturer built 190,500 vehicles with quattro drive, representing one third of Audi vehicles. Out of these, the Q5 stands out as the best selling SUV in its class, with some 63,100 units sold from January until the end of August.

We fully intend to strengthen our position in the all-wheel-drive market even further in the future,” Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi member of the board for marketing and sales said in a release. How? The addition of the new Q3, for one, and the expansion of the production for the Q5 to China as well will be the main steps taken by Audi to increase even more their market share.

With Vorsprung durch Technik we have already spelled out our leadership claim in our logo as a reflection of our status as a progressive premium brand. And, unlike other brands, we didn’t have to reinvent ourselves to do so,” Schwarzenbauer added.

The Q3, until now believed to debut at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show, is the third of the Q line and will come in a choice of several engine options, ranging from the 2.0l unit and ending with a 3.6l V6. It will be built in Spain, at Seat's production facility in Martorell.
