The latest set of spyshots taken during A1 testing in Germany reveal both the headlights and the taillight of the updated supermini. Both look pretty much the same as on the S1, confirming out suspicious that the hot hatch was actually a design preview for the rest of the model range.
If you look closely, the two test prototypes have different headlights. The three-door car probably has regular halogen bulbs and looks like a base model with unpainted door mirrors caps. The 5-door A1 Sportback prototype has the adaptive Xenon system just launched on the S1 and has its mirror caps covered up, meaning they're likely painted in the same color as the body.
Shame on you Audi for not giving us more standard stuff with what you call a premium car!
A look round the back suggests much the same thing, with the Sportback being equipped with a twin-pipe system and the 3-door a single-pipe, like you get with base models. The sad news is the the A1 probably doesn't receive new independent rear suspension. We can see the mounting points for the normal rigid suspension sprints, which means no multi-point independent system is being added.
On the upside, adaptive shocks will be available, as will a range of new engines. These will include retuned 1.2 TFSI base units with 90 and 110 PS, a new 1.4 TFSI with 125 PS instead of 122, a 150 PS version of that engine and likely a 1.8 TFSI, replacing the 1.4 TFSI twin-charger unit.
