The F15 X5 marks the 3rd generation of Sports Activity Vehicles from BMW, a tradition started more the 14 years ago with the E53 model. With this comes yet another Security version also, for those clients that need more than a massive car.
The F15 Security X5 complies with the requirements of protection level VR6, being the only vehicle in its class that can boast with such an achievement. Also, a VR4 model will be available later on, for those that don't need extreme security measures.
Dubbed BMW Concept X5 Security Plus, the VR6 compliant vehicle offers protection for up to 4 occupants using high-performance steel moldings and panels that can protect the occupants from AK-47 shots.
The joints have also been sealed to be protected against bullet or fragment penetration, in critical areas like between doors or where panels meet the body pillars. Furthermore, the inside of the glass used on the car has been coated in polycarbonate to protect the passengers from glass splinters.
All these extra features are bound to add to the weight of the car but the X5 Security Plus model can handle it with ease, as the F15 platform was designed keeping track that this model will finally be available.
Under the bonnet, the 450 HP V8 from the xDrive50i model will make sure you have plenty of power whilst the xDrive system will deliver it to the wheels in the most efficient way. Just like all other X5 models, the BMW X5 Security Plus VR6 will also be built at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
