Ariel Atom Race Series Coming to the US

TMI AutoTech, the company responsible for bringing the Ariel Atom to the US, made an exciting announcement yesterday. The company is working with VIRgina International Raceway (VIR) to create the world's first Atom racing series that will be known as Spec Racer Atom (SRA).

According to AtomClub.com, there will be 10 races, run on weekends from March through October of 2011, using newly-built Ariel Atom 3 cars. There will be four practice sessions, each 25 minutes long, followed by the actual 20-minute race. In order to spice things up, the configuration of the VIRginia International Raceway will be set up in four different ways.

“VIRginia International Raceway is absolutely thrilled to host the Ariel Atom Experience beginning in 2011. The new format and price point are sure to be winners with Atom fans and anyone seeking a driving adventure experience. Of course, all drivers and their guests are welcome to stay over at VIR Resort's Lodge, have dinner at Oak Tree Tavern, go karting, to the Spa, or just watch the racing action all around them,” stated VIR Managing Partner, Connie Nyholm.

Porpoise-built SRA Atoms are currently being created specifically for the series, with first deliveries expected to occur in April of next year. An attractive purchase package will be offered to the first 10 SRA buyers, that will also be named ‘Founding Members’.  TMI will provide series paddock facilities and offer optional trackside technical support packages to competitors.

In order to participate in the events, TMI is asking for $495 (€375) per person, per event. “I am amazed at how affordable it will be and I know everyone will enjoy competing on four different track configurations at VIR throughout the year.   When I was racing in vintage series, I always raced two cars to make the most of my time driving. I imagine many of our high speed and touring class Members will be racing Spec Racer Atom next year too,“ said Connie Nyholm, Managing Partner of VIRginia International Raceway.
