Ares Design's Latest Commission Is a Stunning Tesla Model S Convertible

Preferably, said experts would need to have ample experience with coachbuilt projects. The Modena-based Ares Design hasn’t been around for as long as Pininfarina or Mulliner, yet in between their well-known projects such as the Panther ProgettoUno or the upcoming Ares S (a C8 ‘Vette disguised as a supercar), they also had time for a handful of unique customizations.

Their latest commission work arrives to provide a stark contrast to the previously introduced all-black classic Porsche 911 Turbo (of the 964 variety). It’s not just that a Tesla Model S is decidedly modern in comparison, but the stylish white example has also been turned into a proper two-door convertible.

Yes, you read that right – and be sure to check out the attached gallery and the video embedded below if you still can’t believe it. Naturally, this is designed as a one-off, because the Italian house explains it’s “a privately commissioned Tesla Model S Convertible.”

And, even though we’re still (secretly) rooting for the owner of the classy 911, we have to admit the Tesla Model S modifications go far beyond. They include a conversion to a two-door soft-top body style, a retractable fabric roof, an elegant aerodynamic kit, as well as an elegant redesign of the interior.

Thus, the Ares craftspeople worked on the body, chassis, aerodynamics, and the cockpit as part of the coachbuilding project. For example, the Tesla Model S now makes do not just without the roof and rear doors, but also the B- and C-pillars, while the rear deck lid was also redesigned to accommodate the stowable roof.

Inside, there are additional structural reinforcements across the side members, underneath the cockpit and in the rear passenger area. Speaking of the latter, there are new, custom-built rear seats, while the entire interior has been redressed in ice white/black leather and spliced with a touch of orange for a bit of color pop.
