Mazda UK has officially announced that the all-new Mazda3 Fastback sedan will be joining the lineup of models on offer later this year, also releasing a bunch of relevant details about the car.
Firstly, the Fastback is 120mm longer than the already large hatch, making it one of the most spacious compacts you can buy. Adding the extra length has increased boot capacity by 69 liters, which translates roughly into three 67cm long suitcases.
Like the Mazda3 hatchback, the saloon has the 2,700mm wheelbase, which Mazda says is the longest in the C-segment and 60mm longer than the current Mazda3’s.
The most important new piece of information provided by Mazda UK is the engine range. British buyers will be given a choice of three petrol and one diesel engine.The basic engine is the 100ps SKYACTIV-G 1.5-litre petrol engine. This will get as much as 56.4mpg on the combined cycle when fitted with the standard six-speed manual transmission and emits only 118 grams per km of CO2. Next up is the 2.0-liter petrol, available with either 120 PS or 165 PS, the more power of which can be had with an automatic engine and i-ELOOP regenerative breaking. Lastly, there's the most frugal of the bunch, a 150 PS 2.2-liter diesel which is available with a manual or automatic gearbox and returns up to 72.5mpg.
