If you live in North America, you probably don't give a flying hoot about the Frontera moniker, yet it used to be a very important product for Opel (Vauxhall in the UK) in Europe.
The company has not forgotten about this nameplate, even if two decades have passed since they last used it, and they are now announcing a brand new generation.

The Stellantis-owned brand states the all-new Opel Frontera will be presented later this year in all its glory, describing it as "a fun car with clever functional features." It will be a rugged-y proposal from a design perspective, will pack the new Blitz emblem, and to make it futureproof, it will only be available with battery-electric power.

To mark the official announcement, the German car manufacturer has also dropped a pair of shadowy teasers. The first one previews the 2024 Frontera's silhouette. The model will have a boxy appearance, resembling Mercedes' GLB to a point, with what appears to be a long rear overhang that would automatically translate to a very spacious (for the segment) cargo area. The second teaser is all about the Blitz logo, as it puts the spotlight on the crossover's face.

We did mention the word 'segment' above, so where will the new Frontera fit in Opel's (Vauxhall's) current portfolio? We don't have an official answer to this question yet. However, unofficially, it has been reported that it might act as a replacement to the aging Crossland. As a result, it should be a subcompact model if it has a similar footprint. Nevertheless, due to the clever packaging, it should offer interior space and a cargo area similar to the upper class models – or that is what we think, anyway.

On the other hand, it could be bigger overall than the Crossland. In the press release announcing it, the car manufacturer states that it "will come with a high level of space and versatility," adding that it will "appeal to customers with an active lifestyle and families alike." Thus, we have to wait and see how big it really is once it premieres.

The official unveiling date will be announced in due course, albeit Opel says it is due sometime this year (2024) and promises to release the first images and more details about it in the coming weeks as it builds up the hype.

Due to its all-quiet nature, the all-new 2024 Opel Frontera, which will be the spiritual successor to the Frontera A and Frontera B, made from 1991 to 1998 and from 1998 to 2004, respectively, will join other zero-emission models in the brand's current lineup. These comprise the Corsa, Mokka, Astra, Astra Sports Tourer, Zafira, Combo, Vivaro, and Movano.
