Some low-quality stills of a car model that is not out yet, but still roams the streets, painted all-black. Here’s the recipe for a very scary-looking apparition near the Tesla headquarters.
The Model Y, the last in the four-model plan envisioned by Elon Musk more than a decade ago, is scheduled to enter production toward the end of next year, but it’s likely we’ll get to see more and more of them popping up on the road in the coming months, as testing picks up speed.

The stills attached In the gallery above have been posted online by Cstreet, a user of the Tesla Motors Club forum. According to Cstreet, the images were captured “in Portola Valley near Tesla HQ” using the cameras on the user’s own Tesla car.

This is not the first time the Y was seen on public roads, but it is probably the first sighting of the vehicle painted all black. Black is a color none of the Model Ys shown so far officially and less so have been using. On this particular car though, black does seem to be the new black, as it gives it a very impressive appearance.

Designed to be something of a bigger brother for the Model 3, the Y will complete the S3XY range of Tesla cars on the roads. It was officially announced earlier this year, complete with pricing information.

As per revealed details, the Y should be capable of driving for about 300 miles when talking about the rear-wheel-drive version, and a little less for the dual-motor. The acceleration time for the car is of around 5 seconds, while the top speed is capped at 130 mph (209 kph).

When it will be launched next year, the Y should sell starting at $39,000 before savings, a bit more than the starting price for the entry-level Model 3.
