Acura Coupe Crossover Photos Leaked

Next month's New York Auto Show will witness another concept addition to the crossover segment. Seemingly inspired by the controversial lines seen on the BMW X6, Acura's yet unnamed crossover concept got its first contact with the automotive world by a few photos leaked today.

Only one photo was officially released by Honda's luxury division, but as jalopnik.com reports, another set of four photographs was discovered by acurazine.com hidden in the source code of the manufacturers website.

No other information regarding the concept is yet available. By looking at the photos - BMW X6 similarity aside - the size of the crossover seem to point at the use of the Acura MDX as a platform. Other speculation point at a modified Honda Crosstour as being the new Acura coupe crossover.

Meant at taking on BMW X6 and the Audi Q5, Acura's new vehicle will most likely form the basis for a future model, set to enter production sometimes next year. At the beginning of February, Acura announced its dealers in an official meeting that launching a new crossover in this struggling financial environment would be "a great idea".

At the time, Acura officials said the new crossover will be positioned in between the RDX and the MDX models. The idea of a new concept is part of the company's efforts to become a Tier 1 luxury brand.

"Being a premium luxury brand is not just about product. It's the way dealers handle customers. You've got to earn your way into the segment. You don't necessarily have to have a $90,000 sedan to get there,” Dick Colliver, Honda America vice president said. A hint of a possible price, perhaps?
