We sometimes end up complaining about screens on board being distractive. But how about a car covered entirely in LEDs? Meet the world’s most distracting car. "It's my driveable Las Vegas Sphere," says the owner.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And Christmas decorations are part of all the holiday joy. But some decide to go overboard with everything. Take Alex Choi, for instance. We have no idea how his house looks right now.
But we know how his car looks. It is a Lamborghini Huracan that has been covered in 30,000 LEDs and he proudly calls it ‘the world’s most distracting car.’ There is no way in the world we would dare to contradict that, not in a million years.
And it’s not just simple LEDs in one single color. They can actually change color and splay customized patterns similar to what we have seen on the Las Vegas Sphere, which is the world’s largest screen, covering 580,000 square feet (54,000 square meters).
The entire display of light on the Huracan is controlled via a laptop. The electronics of the car might have undergone modifications to be able to withstand everything that the light installation came with. Two extra batteries were added, together with additional wiring.
“I doubt that being struck by lightning is the most dangerous thing you’re gonna be doing in this car,” Alex was told. When LEDs don’t work, the traditional method of slapping them does the trick.
To mark the completion of his Huracan covered in Christmas lights, Alex Choi sent an invitation on Instagram to anybody in Los Angeles who had a similar light setup on their car.
Twenty people showed up, each with a car with which they would be unable to keep a low profile. The group went to an undisclosed mountain location, bragged about their cars and did donuts to burn some rubber.
At first, the Lambo failed to light up in front of everybody who was ready to catch the moment on video. It eventually worked.
The transformation did not involve any interference with the engine of the Lamborghini Huracan. So under that layer of 30,000 LEDs, there is the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that it shares with the Audi R8, rated at 602 horsepower (610 PS) for a run from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 2.5 seconds.
It hits 186 mph (300 kph) in 27.6 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds at 135 mph (217 kph). The needle of the speedometer goes all the way to 202 mph (325 kph).
Last year, Alex Choi applied the same treatment to his McLaren 720S, but there wasn't any color shift program on the British supercar.
