I've finally fitted my Panasport G7 rims on the RX-7, and now I'm supposed to do a wheel alignment. The problem is I need to decide whether I'd like to set it up for Time Attack or go sideways. And I know I sadly can't afford the latter.
While drifting is still my ultimate goal when it comes to driving, I'm almost as happy with just trying to improve my lap times with every new outing. It's always nice to see pro drivers doing their thing. You can study their pedal and steering wheel inputs. Seat time is crucial if you want to improve, but additional outside input is welcome.

I recently discovered a new series of track tests, going on at Serres Racing Circuit in Greece. It's a track close to my heart, as I've been attending events there since 2011. The last time out, we saw a comparison between a Porsche 911 GT3, a BMW M2, and a Honda Civic Type R. It's not hard to guess that the GT3 reigned supreme, clocking in at 1:21.7 over the 1.980 miles (3.186 km) layout. It was almost five seconds faster than the hot hatch, but what would you expect from a challenge like this one?

"Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" was a fitting remark for the first episode, and that's just what happened in round two. If you want a brand-new car, the Porsche 911 GT3 (992) will set you back at least $182,900 before tax. The 4.0-liter flat-six is good enough for 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft (470 Nm).

With the PDK gearbox, that's enough to propel you from 0 to 60 mph (96 kph) in about 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of just under 200 mph (321 kph). What about the Cayman GT4 RS, though? There's a clear connection between it and the GT3, but it has a starting price of $160,700 before tax. Sure, it "only" has 493 hp and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, but it's slightly lighter.

Seeing the two cars racing against the clock is exciting, especially given the photo finish. But there's always a bigger fish. And in this case, it's the old 991.1 GT3 RS. This car is almost 10 years old, but will still set you back around $200,000 if you want a nice one. You can tell it's a more dramatic appearance on the track from the first few corners.

Although it crosses the line in 1:20.9, it could dip into the 1:19s if it had more grip. I've seen a highly experienced amateur driver lapping the same track using a 992 GT3 RS in 1:20.24. But I'd recommend you look up what a 992 GT3 Cup car can do here: it's at least five seconds faster!
