Countless first-gen Ford Broncos are on sale at any given time, yet only a few are exciting from a petrolhead's perspective. The one pictured below ticks this aspect, and it will likely surprise you in at least two aspects.
First things first, we have to tell you that it is a 1966 model, so it was made in the first year of assembly. It is presented in black on top of a black interior, and you can instantly tell that it's a trail-ready machine, even though off-roaders may not be your thing.

It boasts a very generous ground clearance to the point where it would make some modern high-riders jealous. Enhancing its abilities off the beaten path are the Fox shocks and the Warn lockout hubs, whereas the massive tires wrapped around the American Racing Wheels improve traction on arduous tracks, allowing it to push forward.

A very special engine assists this '66 Ford Bronco’s terrain-conquering nature. As you probably already know, this generation came with straight-six and V8 gasoline power, mated to manual and automatic transmissions with three gears. As for this copy, it features a low-revving mill under that shiny hood. It is a 3.9L Cummins turbodiesel with four cylinders, which works in concert with a five-speed stick shift and four-wheel drive.

As for the shiny look mentioned above, which is clearly visible in the pictures released by the vendor that show this classic 4x4 from pretty much every angle, it is due to a full restoration. The vehicle is described as being "ready to conquer any terrain it encounters," with the vendor adding that it is "a symbol of adventure and enduring style ready to take you on thrilling journeys through the great outdoors." And we reckon it will do that without any hassle.

Now, we did mention that it will surprise you in two aspects. One of them is the new oil burner, and the other is the asking price. You see, no one expects classic Broncos that have been brought back to their initial shine to cost pennies on the dollar, yet this particular example is on the steep side of things. We found the ad on Garage Kept Motors here, which reveals an asking price of $99,900 for the old-timer that has 65,608 miles (105,586 km) on the clock.

Thus, one must truly love this model to pay the hefty sum, especially when they could order a brand-new 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor for similar money. This one features an EcoBoost V6 with a 3.0L displacement, a ten-speed auto, four-wheel drive, additional enhancements over the lesser flavors, and 418 horsepower. All this in exchange for $90,035 before destination and dealer fees. Would you still get the older one over a new Raptor?
