I recently covered an 18-wheeler project owned by none other than off-road racing machine Timmie Cameron and his team. When I did, I also beheld what can be considered one of America's most under-the-radar custom race hauler and coach manufacturers, 5150 Race Trailers.
Folks, I only recently crossed paths with 5150 Race Trailers working out of Lewisburg, Tennessee. However, from the first moments my visual cortex could process some of what you see in the image gallery, I quickly realized that this team is worthy of so much more than just 11K followers on Facebook.

Now, 5150's history dates back to 1989, when Mike Walker started building a toterhome for himself. If the term "toterhome" doesn't sound familiar, all you need to imagine is an 18-wheeler cab or tractor with an overly extended chassis behind it onto which a living space is set. It's basically the biggest class C motorhome you've ever witnessed.

Once Mike noticed that the market had a niche for this sort of machine, he started up Wild Side Custom Haulers, and as time moved forward, things just snowballed, eventually into custom racing trailers. But, it wasn't until 2003 that the name 5150 would appear on the American market. All that brings us to the wonderous rolling spectacles before us today.

Now, to go through the complete lineup of machines this crew spits out would be sheer insanity. So, what I've chosen to do with our time together is just briefly bring to light some of the most notable works I've come across.

Our journey into 5150 begins with nothing more than the trailers they craft, and according to their website, they do it all. From vending trailers to single-car and even gooseneck liftgate trailers, 5150's website is littered with these babies.

Some of the more insane ones include the vending trailer #2, that two-story, black and chrome unit with those massive slideouts, multiple patios, and a rooftop lounge, and the sprint car units, in particular, the #4 with its complete and integrated tool shop and garage. As for the 53-foot range, you've already witnessed what they did with Cameron's trailer, and that's part of this class.

Up next, we'll be looking at this crew's totorhomes, and while there aren't many displayed on the manufacturer's website, there are a few juicy ones found on their Facebook page, so be sure to check that out as well. Nonetheless, notable units include the #2 totorhome with its residential-like interior but the menacing and capable exterior and the one that was delivered to Chase Motorsports late last year.

As I explored the latter, I realized the true level of craftsmanship this crew could achieve because, by the looks of things, I felt as though I was staring down the hallway of a luxury RV. It includes porcelain tile flooring, leather couches and seating, residential-sized appliances, and even a four-bunk sleeping station. Now that's what I'm talking about!

Moving up the 5150 ladder, we arrive at one of the smaller sections of units found on their website. I'm talking about motorhomes, and the only reason I can think of as to why there are only five units displayed here is because, technically, half of the work 5150 achieves is motorhomes, in one form or another.

Next, we can take a look at some of the simpler mobile garage solutions 5150 is known for. I'm talking about the one-piece haulers, of which only three appear on the manufacturer's website. That's because we can clearly guess what's found inside each of these rolling garages: a bunch of empty space for your most precious toys. Some are bound to include little additional gear as 5150 is that kind of custom-work crew; they'll build a unit to your needs and liking.

Last but not least, the category that really brings all that 5150 stands for to light is the truck and trailer category. Here, we can see the full extent of what this team can achieve, and when it's all done, each machine shows up to the mobile habitat and hauling game as a complete solution, truck, trailer, and even workshop.

A couple of notable combos include the juicy #16 with its cherry-red and chrome exterior, the Brett Hearn unit with a black and red exterior and home-living-like interior, and, of course, the on-road behemoth delivered to Chase Motorsports.

Yes, I've mentioned this one already, but it's so beautiful and well-executed that it deserves a deeper look. For example, you witnessed the interior already, but did you also happen to see that the exterior is ready with features like an awning and outdoor grill setup? Even the trailer's roof is walkable, and if things are built how I think they are, you could very well hang out and relax in the sun up here. Maybe there are solar panels up here to help manage some of a team's electrical needs on race day.

While 5150 Race Trailers is one of those crews that you only end up seeking if you need a special kind of mobile habitat or hauler, the work they achieve is more than worthy of gracing your grey matter.
