Some custom projects are so out there, so out of the ordinary, so wild, that we just can't resist bringing them to light. This is the exact case with the results before us today, this luscious and "no-chrome" Peterbilt and its toy-hauling double-decker trailer with slideouts.
Folks, take a nice long look at the images in the gallery and even the videos below. There, you'll witness the result of a project that was sparked between off-road hill-climb race fanatic Timmie Cameron and the Semi Casual Shop, which is part of Fitzgerald Peterbilt, a custom shop that specializes in the rigs its name would suggest.

Now, in order for us to understand a bit about what's going on here, I'll be breaking down the article into two sections. The first will focus on nothing more than the tractor and all the work it received, and the second will be all about the trailer and what it has to offer; it's insane!

As I mentioned, part one of this story is all about that highly modified Peterbilt 389. What's important to note here is that this tractor was actually completed about a year ago, and that's not counting the weeks to months it was in the shop. However, once it rolled out of the shop, no one could deny that this was a rolling piece of art.

While some of the interior has seen custom attention, too, it's the exterior that really leaves its impression on the mind. For example, the entire thing is decked out in a grey paint job highlighted with powder-coated accents to perfectly blend with the texture of the wheels.

This includes the 20-inch bumper with a lift kit at the front and the "Peterbilt" emblems. The remaining black components, the likes of the 8-inch stacks from DynaFlex, rear T-bar, and Iowa Customs Deck Plates, are as shiny as can be. Honestly, it's not the most out-of-this-world color combo, but it's just so dang balanced!

But it looks like it's missing something. Maybe a dash of color? Well, it seems I wouldn't be the only one who has thought of this because underneath all that grey and black hides a very cool trick: underglow LEDs, or as I like to call them, swag lights. During the evening hours of the night, this puppy lights up like a firefly during summer nights.

Now, I could sit here and talk about this rig and what's going on with it for a few hours. Heck, there are multiple videos that dive deep into all it took to bring it to life, but the trailer needs some attention, too. Yet, this piece of the puzzle wasn't completed by the folks over at Fitzgerald, but rather, 5150 Race Trailers, a rather under-the-radar crew working out of Iowa. Just so we're on the same page, this manufacturer's know-how goes back to 1989 but has only been active under this name since 2003.

Overall, this puppy was crafted to match the rig's colors, or was that the other way around; it seems to be a case of the chicken or the egg. However, that doesn't even matter; this thing is amazing. For example, one of the videos below begins with an exterior look at this machine, and right from the start, we can see there's something different about this one.

I'm talking about that elongated body, part of which is a two-story living space and the rest a garage with platforms. To get an idea of what's in store, I'll briefly run over the layout, but you can find the full details in the nearly one hour of video material we've added below.

Our journey inside begins by entering the trailer via the starboard side. Once we do, we find ourselves in an area that's used as a garage for tools, and part of it even slides out. It's here that race gear is also stored in an entire wall of storage cabinets. Be sure to check out that massive workbench.

To the right of the side entrance, the trailer leads us upstairs into a co-living space that's ready with a complete galley, bathroom, and bed as well. It's here that Timmie and the gang hang out and discuss the race highlights or their approach to the next leg.

Finally, we arrive at this hauler's garage, accessible either from the workshop or via the open ramp door. Now, the neat thing about this garage is the way it's set up: on two stories. Just imagine what you could do with something like this. What you could bring along on trips around the US; just don't forget the tractor.

While this is the end of our journey together, for now, anyway, I'm sure that you won't just feel inspired by the project before us today, but some of our readers are sure to call up the teams I talked about to get their hands on their very own one-of-a-kind 18-wheeler; bring your checkbook.
