There’s a good reason the Dukes of Hazzard used a classic Dodge Charger. Actually, they used more than one car, with plenty of stuff being broken in the process. For one thing, a C6 Corvette heavily modified for drag racing won’t be quite as good with the offroading bits. Or will it?
A rather unexpected answer comes from a recent half-mile event in Texas, which saw a 3,000 hp ‘Vette getting airborne in a scene that could easily be mistaken for a Bo and Luke audition.

The machine comes from a racing team that packs a pair of C6 Corvettes, with the 3,000 hp racer being developed as a response to those situations when their 1,600 hp vehicle is not enough.

Things didn’t exactly go as planned during the extreme run

With the team planning to do its thing with the speed traps at the end of the half-mile run, the 3,000 hp C6 Vette was deployed. Not necessarily in a surprising manner, the Chevy experienced traction issues while it was sprinting.

The driver deployed the parachute and also pulled desperate saving maneuvers, but failed to keep the Corvette in check. The racecar went off the road, hitting a bump, which sent the car flying. Landing in a ditch next to the asphalt wasn’t too smooth either.

As you can see in the clip below, the ‘Vette ate quite a lot of grass during its Dukes of Hazzard-style adventure. Fortunately, the driver walked away (we expect that to have been a slow process, though) without a scratch.

In fact, we expect him to have been more threatened by the post-run wrath of his wife than the driving incident.

As for the car, it doesn’t appear to have suffered serious damage, so we hope the quest to control the 3,000 hp to be restarted soon.
