Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. will become fully hybrid by the end of 2024. Before the Raging Bull of Sant'Agata Bolognese bids farewell to purely internal combustion vehicles with the Huracan-replacing Temerario, the Italian automaker intends to replace the Urus S and Urus Performante with a plug-in hybrid V8-powered sport utility vehicle.
Enter the Urus PHEV. Originally teased in the 33rd issue of Lamborghini Magazine back in February 2024, the newcomer will be revealed on April 24. Not even a week later, the Urus PHEV will be shown to prospective customers in the Big Apple.

The invitation for the NYC event reads Urus PHEV, but we still don't have confirmation whether Urus PHEV is the final name. In any case, look forward to 700-plus horsepower from the plug-in setup. The yardstick is the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, which is good for 739 ps and 950 Nm (729 horsepower and 700 pound-feet) at full chatter.

According to Zuffenhausen's favorite son, the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 develops 600 ps (591 hp) as opposed to 666 ps (657 hp) for the Urus S and Urus Performante. For the Urus PHEV, total system output should be higher than the BMW XM Label's 738 horsepower. The XM Label cranks out 738 pound-feet (1,000 Nm).

There is talk about 800 cavalli vapore, meaning 789 mechanical horsepower, but we should wait for confirmation rather than believe such rumors. Just like the Urus S and Urus Performante, the Urus PHEV should use an eight-speed automatic transmission. A self-locking center differential is likely as well. In the S and Performante, the all-wheel-drive system defaults to 40 and 60 percent.

If needed, the Torsen-style AWD system can send 85 percent of the torque to the front wheels or nearly 100 percent to the rear wheels for a sportier driving experience. Active torque vectoring and rear-wheel steering are on the menu as well, and Lamborghini might further improve the breed with the Cayenne's new two-chamber and two-valve air suspension.

From the standpoint of exterior styling, Urus PHEV will get a more prominent rear aerodynamic spoiler and redesigned taillights. Slightly different headlights also need to be mentioned, along with different styling for the front bumper. As for the interior, expect an updated infotainment system à la the 12.3-inch Porsche Communication Management touchscreen infotainment system.

Lamborghini could also make for a redesigned center console and a front-passenger display. In the 2024 Porsche Cayenne and Taycan, said touchscreen is listed with a 10.9-inch diagonal. Regarding curb weight, Lamborghini might surprise us with a lower figure than the curb weight of the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid if the Raging Bull used more carbon fiber than sister Volkswagen Group brand Porsche.

Electric driving range should be similar to the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid as well. Over in Europe, the WLTP rating is 71 to 78 kilometers (44 to 48 miles) from a 25.9-kWh battery pack as opposed to 17.9 kilowatt hours for the preceding model. At speeds above 135 kilometers per hour (84 miles per hour), the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid relies on the internal combustion engine alone.
