It was five years ago, back in 2019, when Italian carmaker Lamborghini pulled the wraps off perhaps the most insane variant of the Huracan it had ever made: the Sterrato. Only a concept at that time, the model was meant to take a breed of vehicle you should only drive on asphalt off of it.
The concept materialized in a production version in 2022, when the Sterrato came into this world as the all-terrain version of the Huracan. Granted, it may not be as capable at going over uneven ground as say the Urus, but its increased ground clearance (44 mm more than on the Huracan Evo), the wider tracks (plus 30 mm at the front and plus 34 mm at the rear), and an aluminum front underbody protection sure make it a lot more capable than the version it is based on.

Powering the Huracan Sterrato is Lambo's mighty 5.2-liter V10 engine that delivers to the wheels an impressive 602 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque. All that power is handled by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and sent to the ground through an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system with a rear mechanical self-locking differential.

Despite being suitable for taking on more challenging terrain, the Sterrato remains a Lamborghini, true and true in terms of performance levels, and it can easily hit 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. The car's top speed is rated at 160 mph (260 kph).

Production of the model started back in February 2023, and ever since then the Italians said only 1,499 units will ever be made. The price for each of them stands at a little under $300,000, which is to be expected for a car of this caliber.

The model was, from the get-go, suitable to be customized with the help of Lamborghini's Ad Personam program, and that means a solid choice of 350 colors for the exterior and no less than 60 colors for the interior.

None of them, probably, are as spectacular as the ones Lamborghini introduced now, during the Milan Design Week taking place in Italy. We're talking about a color scheme that will only be available on 12 Sterratos, a special series inside this special series, also made with help from Ad Personam and Centro Stile.

These special liveries, pulled over bodywork as a matt camouflage paint job, are meant no more no less to highlight four of the different types of terrains the Sterrato can drive over: we have snow, sand, the green of the woods, and, of course, the desert, all of them mimicked on the bodywork and the interior. In the carmaker's own words, "the All-Terrain editions adopt the colors of the landscapes from which they take their inspiration."

The snow car is wrapped in something called Neve (which is the Italian word for, well, snow), the dunes and oases are portrayed by a color called Sabbia (sand in Italian), and the green of the trees in a forest is represented by something called Bosco. Finally, the sand in the dunes is evoked by something called Terra.

The special paint job is matched in all 12 cars by matt black on the roof, the upper side of the hood, roof rails, and cross bars. The lower side of each vehicle comes in the same matt black as well, only accented by a color that is unique to each of the four versions.

All of the 12 special Sterratos ride on 19-inch Morus wheels and have additional lights installed.

Inside Lamborghini envisioned dark chrome and carbon twill accents to go with the Alcantara that wraps around pretty much everything inside the cockpit. Making sure no one mistakes these cars with the regular siblings, lasered Sterrato dedicated graphics and an Ad Personam plate have been imagined for the rides.

Lambo made a spectacle of presenting the unique paint jobs in Milan, showing them in front of a limited crowd of just 200 people on the backdrop of "the specific environment by which its livery is influenced." But that was basically only for show, as no one could actually buy one of these babies.

That's because Lamborghini says all 12 cars made this way have already been spoken for - but makes no mention of their price or who they were sold to. We do know, though, that these things were not publicly available.

More to the point, the Italians split the run of 12 cars into three batches meant for the specific environment they are meant to honor. That means the world's main commercial regions – the two Americas, the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and Asia-Pacific and Australia – will each receive four of the Sterratos wearing the special paint jobs. And not just any four cars, but the ones that are representative of the areas they'll be used in.
