Not long now, and on March 27, 2024, at the New York International Auto Show, Hyundai will present the refreshed 2025 Santa Cruz unibody compact pickup truck. What's Ford going to do about it?
With the 2025 Hyundai Tucson refreshed for international markets, the American version was obviously just around the corner. No worries, the facelifted compact crossover SUV is due at the NY Auto Show, and together with the twin Santa Cruz unibody compact pickup truck, they will launch shortly in the United States after the initial public premiere.
They are both a little more rugged – especially the HMMA-produced compact pickup truck, which also comes with a more adventurous XRT grade in a bid to bridge the gap with Ford's Maverick. The latter is the sector's best-seller thanks to a mix of more truck-like looks, the availability of a hybrid powertrain, and its lower pricing point. It's also cheaper to build because it's produced in Mexico, by the way.
At this point, the rumor mill thinks Ford won't let Hyundai's Santa Cruz facelift go to the market unchallenged – and there are whispers about some additional versions coming to the market soon, both for the Maverick and the mechanically-related Ford Bronco Sport. However, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators thinks this is nowhere enough. Well, at least Kleber Silva, a Brazil-based virtual artist known as KDesign AG on social media, does – and he has decided to have a CGI go at imagining the refreshed version of the American compact pickup truck.
Unlike other pixel masters who think that maybe the facelifted Ford Maverick will take after something swoopy like the upgraded 2025 Ford Explorer ST, this CGI expert doesn't abandon the rugged nature of the current Maverick. Instead, he enhances the look with elements 'stolen' from the 2024 Ford Expedition SUV and F-150 pickup truck. Obviously, the biggest changes come up front, where there's reworked headlight styling, a new radiator grille, and a modified bumper treatment.
Out in the back, only the taillights are subtly enhanced, but the facelift's little revolution comes inside. According to the vision of the pixel master, the wide infotainment screen now covers the entire surface of the rectangle, there's a new digital instrument cluster, and the dashboard has been reworked with a more stylish design and much better, softer-to-touch materials. While completely hypothetical at this point in time, this design project could point toward a great potential answer to the changes Hyundai has in store for the competing Santa Cruz, right?
On the other hand, just like with the rivaling model, no one really thinks that Ford will change the powertrain mix – so even a thoroughly reworked 2025 Maverick might still arrive with the same 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo inline-four or 2.5-liter gasoline-hybrid Duratec mill. What do you think?
