After a lengthy teaser campaign sprinkled with numerous spy shots, Mercedes-AMG is finally ready to pull the wraps off the second-generation two-door GT. The Porsche 911 rival from the Affalterbach brand will premiere in a few minutes, and if you want to see the live unveiling, then you have come to the right place.
The video feed embedded at the bottom of the page will go live at 10:58 PM EST (4:58 AM CET), and while Mercedes-AMG would want us not to know what the car looks like, we've already seen it courtesy of a few leaked images that we covered earlier today.
Despite being based on the same platform as the latest-gen SL, the new GT has different front and rear ends. The face is dominated by a large grille with vertical slats that can be found on most brand-new AMGs these days, flanked by sweptback headlights. The lighting units at the rear are slim and dominate a good chunk of the back end, and the shape of the tailpipes, as well as the emblem on the right-hand side of the tailgate, differ depending on the model in question.
Speaking of that, it looks like the leaked variant was the GT 63, so we are likely looking at the same engine that powers the eponymous SL. It is the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 making 577 hp in this case. The GT 55 is expected with 469 hp, and it remains to be seen whether it will also launch in the GT 43 configuration, which uses a 2.0L four-pot with 415 hp in the entry-level SL. The S E Performance might top the range with an electrified powertrain reportedly making close to 830 brake horsepower, which would make it a Porsche 911 Turbo S killer.
On the inside, the new-gen GT, which replaces the nine-year-old iteration, will be almost identical to the SL, sporting the same infotainment system, digital dials, dashboard panel, center console, and so on. There could be a few key upgrades to separate the two, though to the average Joe, they will look the same. We have yet to find out whether the steering wheel, trim, upholstery, air vents, and maybe some buttons and knobs will be different on the fixed-roof model, but we will shortly, with the video about to go live, accompanied by a press release and what should be a ton of images.
It is possible that the first hands-on reviews, or at least live walkaround videos, will hill the web shortly after the premiere, so the assets should give prospective buyers an idea of what to expect from the 2024 GT, which should start arriving at dealers all over the world in the coming weeks or months.
