Twinned with the SL, the second-generation GT went official in August 2023 for the 2024 model year. Now available to configure in the United Kingdom, the all-wheel-drive coupe retails at £164,765 OTR.
That's just around $208,850 at current exchange rates. The OTR price includes many things, beginning with the delivery charge and registration fee. OTR also includes the 20% value-added tax, half a tank of gas, the first year of road tax, and the license plates.

Part of the reason why the GT is utterly expensive in the United Kingdom is the 20% value-added tax. As per a press release published by Mercedes-Benz UK, the other reason is the engine. Rather than starting with the 55 series, the UK-spec GT starts with the 63 series, meaning 585 ps and 800 Nm on full song.

That's 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, and you definitely need all of them due to the car's weight (1,970 kilograms or 4,343 pounds). 4MATIC+ performance all-wheel drive is standard whether you like it or not, partly due to weight.

In combination with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission, 4MATIC+ enables the GT 63 to reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.2 seconds. Maximum speed is estimated at 195 miles per hour (314 kilometers per hour). As for handling dynamics, the GT 63 is a surprisingly capable sports tourer due to rear-axle steering, semi-active roll stabilization, as well as active aero.

At launch, prospective customers are presented with three grades: Premium Plus, Performance, and Launch Edition. The Premium Plus boasts composite brake discs with yellow-painted calipers, 21-inch forged wheels in matte black, sports seats, a front-axle lift, and DIGITAL LIGHT LED headlamps.

A 2+2 rather than a strict two-seat coupe, the second-generation GT further sweetens the deal with keyless go, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control with ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL, and quite a few other goodies advertised in uppercase letters. Level up to the Performance or Launch Edition, and you're treated to ceramic-composite brakes with bronze-painted calipers. Both are specified from the outset with the AMG Aerodynamics package in glossy black. Regardless of grade, all GTs come with a retractable spoiler that adopts no fewer than five different angles at speeds above 50 mph (80 kph).

Over in the United Kingdom, the GT is available in a grand total of 11 exterior paint colors. The rear seats are better used for storing your whatnots than seating your friends, especially if said friends are taller than 1.50 meters (make that 4 feet and 11 inches going on 12 in the United States).

Not long now, the GT will follow in the footsteps of the SL with two further powertrains. The 55 and 63 will be joined by the four-cylinder 43 and plug-in 63 S E PERFORMANCE. The former is rear-drive only, whereas the latter makes 805 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet (1,420 Nm) of tire-shredding torque.
