2024 Hot Wheels Case F Reveals Sixth Super Treasure Hunt of the Year

But Case F for 2024 is ready to leave the factory in Malaysia. That means we should have the first few items in two months tops. If you don't like fantasy cars, I'll give you some free advice. Don't buy an entire case of Mainline vehicles. The only reason you'd want that is if you can get the sealed one, hoping for a Super Treasure Hunt inside.

But if that's your plan, double-check your source. These days, many intermediaries are opening up cases to extract rare items. If you don't care for my advice, at least I hope you have a lot of kids or nephews that like the fantasy items. That's how I got rid of my unwanted collectibles.

Super Treasure Hunt

If you have not seen any sneak peeks, the sixth Super Treasure Hunt item for 2024 is here. The STH line-up has been formidable this year, and it will be challenging for the '71 El Camino to stack up against some of the other models.

Wayne Scott designed this casting for its 2010 debut. All four iterations released that year featured Real Riders Steelie wheels. Mattel developed five more premium versions of this El Camino since. The newest one came out last year, but I immensely enjoyed the Ultra Hots model.

If you've been enjoying my STH reviews, you may remember that Mattel used this casting for that purpose in 2013, too. Both cars are in the $30 to $70 neighborhood each. So you might be better off not hunting for it in stores.

Regular Treasure Hunt

The Regular Treasure Hunt item for Case F is the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400. Almost four years have passed since the American manufacturer unveiled this monster of an EV. Ford Performance even teamed up with Vaughn Gittin JR for a "Free Rein" experience around the Faroe Islands. The Ryu Asada-designed replica of this vehicle debuted in the 2022 Mainline series, and we have seen four more iterations since.

The new TH variation is similar to the Dark Blue model we saw last year but slightly better overall. And it's hands down the most exciting TH for 2024 so far. But that may be because competition has been relatively moderate in this department.

Case F Highlights

Let's see what else is inside with the show's two stars out of the way. As you would expect, there are a lot of recolors and fantasy vehicles. We'll skip those altogether and focus on the exciting bits and pieces. Some collectors enjoy seeing the Custom Otto, which has a new livery. If I had to choose one unlicensed model from this case, it would be the Terra-Tracktyl.

At least this is a brand-new casting for 2024. If there's one trend I don't think I'll ever become a fan of, it's Hot Wheels keychain castings. You'll see quite a few people using the old Coupe Clip for that purpose, but you could already do that with standard HW items, too. So why did we need a Porsche 911 Carrera keychain? It's silly at best.

And I would much rather buy the latest variation of the Mighty K kei-truck instead. The Tesla Model Y is back with the second release for 2024; this time, it features that black-on-black murdered-out look. After being off the grid in 2023, the '70 Plymouth Barracuda is doing alright this year. We had a dark blue version a while ago, and now we're looking at a red one. And if everything goes according to plan, you'll see a Kroger-exclusive recolor, too.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about the Czinger 21C, although it's pretty impressive on paper. Besides the ZAMAC iteration, you can get a red one this year. Ford fans will likely be ecstatic to see the tiny replica of the Ford Performance Supervan 4. Expect a wave of recolors coming soon. Even the Texas Toot has a new look, but the color combo needs to be more enticing if you ask me.

And that's valid for the Audi RS e-tron GT. This particular shade of green could make for an exciting appearance in the real world, but it's slightly off-putting at the 1/64 scale. You can always find better models at the bottom of every case. And on this occasion, the Ford GT40 sets the tone. The blue, white, and black combo makes for a classic look, and I'm sure scalpers will be all over it once it arrives in stores.

The black '91 Mazda MX-5 Miata isn't entirely on the same level, but it's a sure sell for Mattel, as people won't ignore it given its status. And you'll see the same situation with the new color for the '94 Audi Avant RS2. It's the sixth iteration of Ryu Asada's casting. And it's impressive because it just debuted in 2022. In this short timeframe, Mattel has unveiled a Super Treasure Hunt variation and a Premium one.

But collectors are itching for a Car Culture or Boulevard RS2, which is bound to happen sooner rather than later. Laser Red is just as exciting as Nogaro Blue, and I can't help but wonder what the design team in El Segundo has in store for us next. If you're lucky, you can ignore the case-by-case release pattern from the diecast manufacturer and skip to the Treasure Box release in January 2025. The latest one caused quite a stir in the community, and I don't know a single collector who managed to secure one.
