2024 Hot Wheels Case E Reveals Fifth Super Treasure Hunt of the Year

Although only a few days from 2024, Mattel has already released next year's first four Hot Wheels Mainline cases. And now, it's time to look at the fifth one. That adds up to 360 items coming our way, only a few of which are new castings or variations of older ones.

These are the main interest points for collectors and regular enthusiasts alike. But people will often buy even repeat models for various reasons. That explains why the brand is thriving and why the future will bring even more tiny cars than before.

Super Treasure Hunt

These days, I've seen several collectors finding the Super Treasure Hunt models from Cases A and B in stores around my home. Opinions vary between the Ford Escort RS2000 and the '18 Camaro SS, but I'd much rather have the first one. Mattel has been on a roll with the Super Treasure Hunt series this year, as the following two collectibles were equally impressive.

But I'm willing to bet that most people will fight over the '89 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG instead of the BMW 507. By comparison, the new '60s Fiat 500D Modificado feels like a step back. The Mark Jones-designed casting is tiny and cute, and this appearance marks its Mainline debut. We've seen it in Car Culture twice before, and competing against the Gulf variation will be hard. It looks excellent in Spectraflame Yellow, but it will not likely be in the top five best STH models for 2024.

Case E Highlights

The Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar is the first car out of Case E, and it's a surprising appearance. Fraser Campbell designed this casting, and it's brand new for 2024. The Matte Black finish resembles the original look of this race car, and I can't help but wonder what took Mattel so long to come up with this item. The GTP Hypercar sits on Exotic 10-Spoke wheels, a new design for 2023.

I hope the Cadillac Racing yellow livery is next in line for the second variation of this casting. If you don't remember seeing the Custom '72 Chevy LUV, it's because it only appeared inside a 5-pack in 2023. The Ryu Asada-designed casting features an exposed V8 engine and an attractive green livery. The Glory Chaser is growing on me, and it might be a hit for Mattel, seeing that this is the sixth iteration in three years. But it's less exciting than the Corvette Stingray. Larry Wood designed this casting in the late '80s, and we have only seen it in some Multipack Exclusive sets in recent years.

Still, for its most recent Mainline appearance, it was part of the Treasure Hunt series with a fascinating chrome finish. I'm tempted to start a Corvette-exclusive collection, but there are too many of them out there for me to handle. The Shelby Cobra "Daytona" Coupe has been out of the game for four years now, and the diecast manufacturer is betting big with it by using the Gulf livery.

The one car I never expected to see in a Hot Wheels collection is the Pontiac Aztek Custom. Craig Callum designed this casting, and the First Edition features a Powder Blue finish with Y 5-spoke wheels. I've got mixed feelings about the color combo on the Art Cars '70 Dodge Charger R/T, but I'm sure fans of the casting won't hesitate to buy it once it arrives in stores.

Crystal White is the third color for the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and you can expect to see a Fusion Red iteration coming up in Kroger stores soon. Mattel has added one more battery-powered vehicle to its Hot Wheels line-up, with the Silverado EV RST. If I ever decide to resume my pickup truck collection, this one is on my list. The new '57 Chevy is pretty attractive with the White Wall tires, and the casting already has a hardcore fan base that would probably buy any variation regardless of how it looks.

2023 delivered a "Fire Chief" version of the '10 Camaro SS, so for 2024, we're looking at a "Response Team" iteration instead. It's not the item people will be fighting over, and the same goes for the new version of the '15 Jaguar F-Type Project 7. There are several other exciting collectibles in Case E, but we've already seen them in previous sets.

The Mustang Funny Car could've been better with a different set of wheels, so we're left waiting to see the ZAMAC version coming up next. The black '91 Mazda MX-5 Miata is the final car in Case E, and it's the tenth iteration in six years. Overall, this new set of 72 tiny vehicles isn't what you'd call phenomenal. But Mattel will probably develop a better mix for the next one.
