The 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R is here and it is the most powerful pickup truck that the Blue Oval has ever rolled out. The supercharged V8 that powers it churns out 720 horsepower, making the Ram 1500 TRX itself jealous at those numbers. The 1500 TRX will be retired, with no chance whatsoever of getting its 'most potent pickup truck in its class' tag back.
We’ll get down to business and straight into what is the most interesting part of the new 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R. The updated 5.2-liter supercharged V8 now generates a massive 720 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. The 20-horsepower extra oomph compared to the previous model year comes from the reduced air inlet losses, combined with an optimized calibration.

To fit the power plant, the F-150 Raptor R needed some changes to the hood and body close-out panel for more airflow to the air filter. The 5.2-liter V8 that powers the pickup truck is derived from the one that operates under the hood of the Mustang Shelby GT500, delivering 760 horsepower.

Those numbers are making the Ram 1500 TRX eat its heart out. When it debuted, the TRX was the powerful street-legal production pickup in the segment. What sets it in motion is a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, which delivers 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque for a run from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.5 seconds.

Ford is still keeping such details under wraps, but we should expect more than what the 1500 TRX can do from the extra 18 horsepower. The TRX will be retired along with the HEMI V8.

Fourteen years ago, when it made its debut, the F-150 Raptor was powered by a 5.4-liter V8 with 310 horsepower or by the 6.2-liter V8 with 411 horsepower. Things have changed over the years until the model became the most potent in its class.

The list of modifications that the 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R received includes the new headlights with daytime running LEDs shaped as half a square around the outer section. Additional driving lights and a custom front bumper are also part of the plan.

The pickup truck now comes with Fox Dual Live Valve shocks with variable rebound damping for extra comfort. Ford came up with a new head-up display on board, which is available for extra money.

The 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $111,550 on the American market. So, there isn't much of a price hike despite the update.

If the 720 horsepower is too much for you, there is always a backup plan: the Raptor R powered by the 3.6-liter V6 EcoBoost engine packed with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. But you know what they say: there's really no replacement for displacement.
