Did you think the Audi Sport-powered Cupra Formentor VZ5 was dead? It is not, as the Spanish brand is now celebrating it with two new special editions that bring a few novelties inside and out and retain that punchy motor.
The first one is called the Formentor Century Bronze after its matte exterior paint finish. In addition to the special hue, it comes with Carbon Fiber Copper side mirror caps, Dark Chrome Cupra lettering, copper logos, and rides on 20-inch alloys in copper or black as an option.

On the inside, this special edition features front bucket seats for extra sportiness with a black look and stitched black dashboard. The Formentor Enceladus Gray has an identical interior and comes with an Enceladus Gray Matte finish on the outside, dark chrome Cupra lettering and logos, Carbon Fiber Black mirror covers, a similar look for the exhaust pipes, and black 20-inch alloys that can be optionally ordered with a copper hue.

According to SEAT's performance and electrified car brand, the two special edition versions of the Formentor VZ5 (Century Bronze and Enceladus Gray) also bring laser engraved numbers in the door molding that immediately tell users that these aren't the run-of-the-mill variants of the sporty crossover. And if you must know, each one will be capped at 222 units, which is a nod to the company's anniversary (22/2/2018), so it will be an automotive unicorn whose pricing hasn't been announced yet.

With VZ standing for Veloz in Spanish, which is Quick or Fast in English, and the 5 number representing the number of cylinders it has under the hood, the Cupra Formentor (Formentor comes from Cape Formentor on Spain's Mallorca island) VZ5 is three years old and packs the same engine as the Audi RS3, which is also found on the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback.

The official spec sheet reveals that the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged unit produces 385 hp (390 ps/287 kW) and 354 pound-foot (480 Nm) of torque. The thrust goes to the 4Drive all-wheel-drive system through a seven-speed 'box. As for the 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) sprint, it takes 4.2 seconds. This makes it three-tenths faster than its German cousins. The top speed is capped at 155 miles per hour (250 kph).

Besides the punchy motor and sporty upgrades inside and out, the Cupra Formentor VZ5 sits a bit closer to the road than the normal VZ and features Adaptive Chassis Control with no fewer than 15 levels of damping adjustment. The Akebono brakes provide the stopping power, and it rides on 20-inch alloys that you won't find on any other Cupra Formentor. A host of safety systems joined by the usual technology gear completes the offering.
