Alfa Romeo has a very simple model lineup. It comprises the Giulia sports sedan, the Stelvio premium compact crossover, and the Tonale, which is pretty much a re-bodied Jeep Compass. We should also mention the drop-dead gorgeous 33 Stradale supercar that's only a couple of months old.
Their current emphasis revolves around further expanding the family and eventually taking on the electric game. Nevertheless, there was a time when additional hot vehicles that were supposed to be on the affordable side of the market were also on the to-do list. And we're not talking about their long-gone history, as we will go back to 2018 to remind you about such a ride.
Remember the modern-day GTV that was supposed to launch by now? The return of the iconic nameplate was supposed to be marque with a two-door coupe version of the Giulia. Alfa Romeo went as far as teasing the model in question, announcing a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, a clever all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring, over 600 horsepower with e-boost, and seating for four.
A rival to the likes of the coupe versions of the Audi A5, Mercedes CLE, BMW 4 Series, and their likes, the fresh GTV was rumored to launch two years ago. However, it was probably the FCA's merger with PSA that killed the dream of having such a model in its portfolio, likely combined with the crossover boom and the industry's shift towards electric vehicles. That's what we think, anyway, as the Italian company seems to have forgotten about such a machine.
Now, while Alfa Romeo appears to have dropped all intentions of launching an all-new GTV, the internet is not willing to let it go. And by internet, we mean rendering artists, as the Giulia Coupe has been digitally brought to life several times now. We've seen a few very hot takes on it, including the cloverleaf-badged one that we covered a few months back, and now it's time to put the spotlight on a similar proposal.
Sketched out by dessicardesign and shared on social media a little over a week ago, it is a very sexy proposal that does not have many things in common with the Giulia. In fact, it looks more like a 33 Stradale than a coupe variant of the sports sedan, and we think it is absolutely sexy with its broad shoulders, sharp face, and tiny side windows. The cloverleaf logo decorates the front fenders, signaling the presence of a punchy powertrain, and it also has cross-drilled brake discs for quicker stopping.
Overall, we dig the styling of the latest GTV that came from Imagination Land, and we hope Alfa Romeo will eventually resurrect this moniker, as it definitely needs a coupe in its modern-day lineup. And we think most of you would pick it over its main rivals, wouldn't you?
