Let's imagine you want to have your own camper van. There are two main options: build one or buy one (either pre-built or custom-built). But what if you combine these two options by purchasing one and then modifying it to your liking? That's what Angie did with her custom tiny home on wheels, which I'll be discussing today.
Angie travels full-time in her mobile home. What we have here is a 2023 Winnebago Revel – you've probably heard about Winnebago, as the company's name is synonymous with motorhome. Winnebago launched the Revel in 2017 as a rugged overland camper for off-grid adventures based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 4x4 with a 140" wheelbase.

The Revel was, and still is, Angie's dream rig. She got an excellent deal for it – at the time, it was going for a very hefty $210,000 (€193,725), but she got a loan for $150,000 (€138,375), and that's how much she ended up paying for the camper van.

Most people stop there – however, Aggie wanted to fine-tune the rig to suit her exact needs and wants, so she invested an extra $30,000 (€27,675) into the rig, bringing the total price to $180,000 (€166,050).

Normally, I'd say that investing even more money in an already expensive rig doesn't make sense. If you're paying such a high sum for a tiny home on wheels, you'd expect it's already fitted with all you want on it. However, since Angie ended up paying less than the standard price of the rig, I guess it made sense to make some upgrades.

Specifically, Angie installed a new Van Compass suspension kit and various other exterior accessories. At the rear, you'll discover a bike rack and a storage box, while a roof rack holds a 215 W solar panel and a flat-mounted StarLink.

Slide the main door open, and you'll discover a modern, practicality-focused interior. What's more, the rig boasts an open layout, meaning the driver's cabin isn't separated from the living space. Typically, we see this type of separation in larger builds, as the smaller builds (144" wheelbase) will feel too cramped with this kind of modification.

Dead ahead from the entrance, you'll find a seating area. It boasts a bench, a small table, two overhead cabinets, and a window. Moreover, two people can sit here if you swivel the driver's chair. Another storage space nearby is the headliner shelf above the driver's cabin.

Behind the bench, this van has a control panel for its utility systems. It comprises an inverter controller, a solar charge controller, a battery level gauge, and a switch for the Starlink. By the way, this rig's electrical system boasts 385 Ah lithium batteries. Unfortunately, Angie didn't share how much water capacity she has inside her van.

The kitchen is relatively small and located on the passenger side of the interior. It's not the original Revel kitchen – Angie fully renovated it by installing new wood, a deeper sink, an overhead cabinet, drawers, and a flip-up countertop extension.

Angie can use a camping stove or a portable single-burner induction stove for cooking. What's more, she can store about 4-5 days' worth of fresh food in a small fridge.

Opposite the kitchen, you'll notice a wet bathroom. We don't typically see wet bathrooms in 144" Sprinters because they take up so much space. However, Angie explained that she barely uses it for showering and instead uses a Planet Fitness subscription to access showers.

To avoid leaving dead space, Angie stores stuff at the top of the bathroom, leaving barely enough space underneath to sit and use the toilet.

To enter the next part of the interior, you'll have to step through an archway. The rear of the van is occupied by a bedroom/garage. This part was empty when she bought this Revel, so she filled it with a Rigwell interior.

Rigwell's package offered four benches, two at the floor level and two higher up – all four double as storage spaces. Angie uses them to store all her clothes, as well as other personal items. Another notable feature is a Berkey water filter.

When it's time to sleep or when Angie wants to relax, she can electronically lower an elevator bed above this area. Above it, integrated into the ceiling, is an A/C unit.

The only con Angie described for the elevator bed is that it sits pretty high up, making getting in and out of it for both her and her dog a bit challenging. What's more, when lowered, the top benches I mentioned earlier can serve as nightstands.

All in all, Angie has done a great job with this custom version of a Winnebago Revel. She kept many of the rig's useful original features while slightly modifying it to be as practical and comfortable as possible. It did come at quite a cost, but it's worth every single penny for her.
