The BMW X3 is selling pretty well right now, banking on its heritage and features. However, a mid-life update is being prepared for next year, as proven by these latest spyshots.
We've always thought the X3 looked good, but the same cannot be said about this prototype. The camo around its new kidney grilles makes them look like the nostrils of a cartoony angry pig. Hopefully, the production model looks better, and at least they didn't copy the 4 Series styling.

There's not a lot going on on the outside of this car, but some of these features could just be provisional. Maybe BMW doesn't want Mercedes to have any hints for the GLC-Class. This competitive and profitable segment also includes Volvo's XC60 and the Audi Q5, which recently got its own facelift.

As an example of misleading features, these are the old headlight designs, as the new ones will resemble the X5. We do have a set of renderings from the Russian site Kolesa to give you an idea of what to expect.

Around the back, the same kind of subtle changes will be made, with the taillights getting new graphics and small revisions to the bumper. It's amazing that BMW keeps refreshing every car at 3 or 4 years when Tesla just leaves everything the same forever.

We could see much more noticeable updates on the inside, though. The 2 Series models should preview a new style of the console with dual screens and tiny gearbox shifters. The new X3 will come out next year and go on sale in about a year and could bring with it a streamlined lineup.

The mild-hybrid band-aid is already being applied to lower emissions slightly while the iX3 full-electric model will be included in the range for the upcoming 2021 model year. Meanwhile, some of the less popular or fuel-thirsty engines might be discontinued.
