One of the younger models in the Jeep lineup, the Compass was created as a crossover intended for an expanding segment. About 13 years after it debuted, the model is manufactured for the global markets in Mexico, Brazil, China, and India, and more recently in Italy as well.
Jeep announced the start of production of the model at the FCA facility in Melfi, from where it will be shipped all across the continent. To mark the moment, the carmaker announced a series of firsts for the model.

The 2021 Compass is powered by a new 1.3-liter turbo gasoline engine that comes with two power outputs, 130 and 150 hp, respectively. This new powerplant complements the existing 1.6-liter diesel, it too upgraded to develop 120 hp, but also the 4xe plug-in hybrids that develop either 190 hp or 240 hp.

What’s more important is the fact that for the first time in the range, the European Compass is getting a front-wheel drive configuration working with an automatic Dual Dry Clutch Transmission (DDCT) that features a new Sport driving mode.

Also for the first time, the crossover gets FCA’s set of Uconnect connectivity tools, which include either a 7-inch or an 8.4-inch infotainment screen.

“Freedom is and has always been a core value for the Jeep® brand, and one especially prized at a time when circumstances have forced everyone into lockdown, to protect the common good,” Jeep says in a statement.

“As a full expression of the “Go Anywhere, Do Anything” spirit of the Jeep brand, the new Compass now features new infotainment and propulsion technologies to ensure and enhance driver and passenger freedom.”

Visually, the changes made for the Compass – this is a facelift for the existing model – will stand out thanks to new trim levels (there are now five in all), new wheel design, and new exterior colors.

Pricing for the new Jeep Compass was not announced. Also, so far there is no word on the rumored Grand Compass.
