Android Auto Disconnecting When Driving Over Speed Bumps Isn’t a Software Bug

The experience with Android Auto isn’t always the most refined, and some unlucky users out there certainly know this best.
But more recently, others have come across a problem that may have an obvious workaround at first, but which is a lot more complex at closer inspection.

More specifically, a number of users explain that Android Auto keeps disconnecting whenever the car passes over a speed bump. Even a light bump would cause the disconnecting, some say, and the same thing happens regardless of the cable that’s being used.

Needless to say, the first thing that comes in everyone’s mind is a poor connector, either on the phone or on the car. So technically, there’s something wrong with the phone or the car ports, which means that cleaning, or even worse, replacing, is the solution this time.

Some, however, claim it’s not that easy. While Android Auto disconnects from the car when going over a speed bump, the phone remains connected and everything else, such as the OEM mobile interface if available, stays on the screen.

My wife and I have this issue with both our phones. AA drops out but the phone still shows it is charging so it is connected. Tried multiple cables too. Very frustrating especially while driving,” someone explains.

There’s not much these users can do at this point, other than cleaning the ports and replacing cables. In some cases, a firmware update did the trick and restored the fully working Android Auto experience in the car without random disconnects.

Google has already asked for more information on this, requesting users to submit feedback and help the company figure out what’s causing the random disconnects, but for the time being, there’s no word as to when a fix could be launched. As a matter of fact, the most recent version of Android Auto doesn’t seem to resolve these random disconnects either.
