Spied time and again by the carparazzi, the Pajero Sport is up for a mid-cycle refresh. The 2020 model year will be revealed in full on July 25th, promising style and comfort along with off-road performance and the durability of a body-on-frame vehicle architecture.
“With further improvements to its design, convenience, comfort, and quality,” the L200 pickup truck-based SUV will premiere in Thailand. Not surprising anyone, production of the outgoing model is handled by Mitsubishi Thailand at the facility in Laem Chabang.

Full-LED headlights and lots of chrome garnish dominate the front fascia of the Pajero Sport, which flaunts the Mitsubishi three-diamond logo bang in the center of the grille in a triangular cut-out. The sharp styling includes the sculpted hood, and we’re certain the Dynamic Shield design language will also encompass the rear end of the mid-size SUV.

Known as the Shogun Sport in the United Kingdom and Montero Sport in other markets, the body-on-frame utility vehicle is expected to offer a 2.4-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with 181 PS (178 horsepower) and 430 Nm (317 pound-feet) of torque. Super-Select 4WD and Easy-Select 4WD are two other highlights, along with Off-Road Mode, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 360-degree camera system.

On the technological front, the L200 (a.k.a. Triton) will be much obliged to share lots of safety and driver-assist systems with the Pajero Sport. The most important of them all are misacceleration mitigation, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot warning, and forward collision mitigation.

Not available in the United States, the Pajero Sport starts in Australia from 46,490 dollars for the five-seat model with the eight-speed automatic transmission. A seven-seat option is also available, but don’t be fooled into thinking an adult would sit comfortably in the rearmost row of seats.

In parts of the world such as the UK, a commercial vehicle version is also available with 605 kilograms of payload and a 3.1-tonne towing capacity.
