Four years ago, Mercedes-AMG introduced the GT, a two-door, two-seat sports car built to impress. The success of the model prompted the carmaker to release various version of it since, versions which culminated with the launch of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé earlier this year.
Since its introduction, the car received an upgrade of sorts in 2017, one that was targeted mostly at performance. On Wednesday, the first refresh that can be properly called facelift was announced.
Currently, the lineup of the model consists of the entry-level GT, followed by the mid-range GT S and GT C, while on top of the food chain sits the GT R. As of next year, the range will be joined by the newly introduced GT R PRO.
For the new model year, the Mercedes-AMG GT line will receive both exterior and interior enhancements, most of them introduced with the purpose of creating a connection between this model and the 4-Door Coupé.
On the outside, the new GT show changes mostly at the back, where the tailpipe cover was redesigned to match that on the 4-Door coupé. For the base GT, as well as for the GT S and GT C, the black diffuser insert is also new.
The twin tailpipe covers on the entry level are now round, while on the mid-range versions the carmaker went for a trapeze shape. The rear design of the GT R remains largely unchanged.
At the interior, the lineup has been refreshed with the introduction of the new fully digital instrument display comprising a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen on the center console. Also, the steering wheel is new, being introduced with perforated black Nappa leather.
Mercedes took the opportunity presented by the introduction of this minor facelift to announce the availability of the AMG Dynamics control system on the GT lineup that enhances the functions of the ESP.
