The all-new, second-generation Genesis G80 sedan has once again been spotted testing in Germany. This represents a fresh start for the Korean brand which so far hasn't made a large dent in the luxury car market.
Looking at the size of their multi-billion dollar businesses, Mercedes and BMW can't be touched by Genesis. But if you're after a luxury sedan with good features at an affordable price, the G80 could become the perfect alternative to things like the 5 Series or E-Class.
It will come out this fall as part of a new generation of Genesis models, which also includes the upcoming GV80 SUV. In fact, by 2021, the company hopes to have six models in the range from just one when it separated from Hyundai.
These six models include the more compact G70, the flagship G90 and at least another SUV. According to the company boss, the production version of the Essentia concept will also come in 2021, while EVs are also supposed to be part of the equation
It might. We're big fans of both the current G80 and the smaller G70, though affordability as a major part of their appeal. Bargains aren't always money-makers, so perhaps by designing something polarizing, it gets people to notice the brand.
The camo is pretty thick here, but we've got renderings and everything for this car. What we haven't seen before on the G80 is this particular exhaust system. It's got two tips, one for each side, designed with the same pentagonal shield look as the front grille. As if that wasn't enough, the U-shaped headlights mirror the taillights on this sedan.
Engine-wise, we know that the new G80 will max out with a V6, either the turbo 3.3-liter or the 3.8-liter. On top of this, we should see some kind of four-cylinder base unit.
