Now that Ford offers a supercharged Mustang from the factory, many fans wonder if they should go for the 2020 Shelby GT500 or engage in a GT build.
Of course, the said question revolves around the budget, while one can't ignore the warranty of the snake. And we're here to see what a fully modded 5.0 can do against the GT500.
To be more specific, the 2018 Ford Mustang GT we have here has been gifted with a 2.65-liter TVS Odin supercharger, along with a multitude of other goodies, such as an E85 setup. As such, the Coyote under the hood now delivers 855 ponies at the rear wheels, which makes for between 950 and 1,000 hp at the crank.
Of course, that power also needs to be translated into forward momentum. And this is why the ten-speed automatic tranny has been built, while the rear axle features a small wheel conversion allowing the fat-sidewall Mickey Thompson Street SS rubber to put the muscle to the road.
As for the GT500, this only features a resonator delete and an oil catch can, so the official 760 horsepower crank rating of its supercharged 5.2-liter Predator motor should still be pretty accurate.
So not only is the massaged GT some 200 horsepower richer than the GT500, but the first is also about 200 lbs (90 kilos) friendlier to the scales. So yes, the dual-clutch tranny of the factory car is its only advantage in the racing adventure awaiting you in the piece of footage below.
Now, the battle action can be found at the 10:19 and 11:45 points, but the final part of the clip will also deliver sweet 60-130 measurements, for instance, so you might want to stick around for that.
PS: Keep in mind not to use such shenanigans as an example and head over to the drag strip when you're feeling competitive, okay?
