The compact executive sedan underpinned by the Alpha 2 vehicle architecture is entitled to take on the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class while the Audi A4 doesn’t count because it’s front-wheel drive.
First things first, the 3 Series in 330i flavor starts at $41,745 while the three-pointed star wants $42,395 for the C 300. The aggressive pricing strategy at Cadillac is meant to steal customers away from the German juggernauts, and as the headline implies, $33,990 is the most affordable CT4 available at dealer lots.
Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, and the CT-4 are the four trim levels available, and all-wheel drive ranges from $1,100 to $2,600 depending on specification. Regular models make do with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the LSY that serves as the successor to the LTG in the Chevrolet Camaro pony car. This engine is also shared with the XT4, CT5, and CT6, and it’s rated at 237 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm.
The CT4-V comes with the L3B, a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder introduced by General Motors as the Tripower in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck. 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque don’t seem like a lot, and it’s not if you remember how much suck-squeeze-bang-blow the ATS-V had.
LED lighting at both ends, dual-zone climate control, active noise cancellation, HD Rear Vision Camera, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-display driver information center, and premium audio are a few of the highlights that come as standard. Super Cruise will be introduced next year for hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of highways in the United States and Canada.
The CT4 experience gets sportier with the CT-4 thanks to Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 for the rear-wheel-drive model or ZF MVS passive dampers with all-wheel drive. Brembo brake calipers, 18-inch performance tires, a 10-speed automatic transmission with sport mode, and a limited-slip differential at the rear are also worthy of mention. “Because the CT4 is equal parts technology and performance, we wanted to reveal it in a way that would stimulate the senses and evoke emotions our customers might feel when behind the wheel,” said Melissa Grady, chief marketing officer at Cadillac. Every version of the compact executive model is manufactured in Michigan at the Lansing Grand River facility, which received a $211-million investment to support the production of next-gen Cadillac sedans.
