We've already taken a look at the new S4 TDI models, which are arguably the coolest part of the A4 family facelift. But when Auditography released a 2020 A4 allroad video, we knew it was worth checking out.
The allroad can be considered a separate model, even though much of the bodywork is shared with the rest of the A4 family. The soft-road wagon gets not only higher suspension, but also tweaks to its drive modes to suit its ambitions.
Many see it as the anti-statement to the SUV, and to some extent it is. But the biggest problem here is that prices are quite high, which is often the case with low-volume wagon models. To be more specific, this model is the 45 TFSI, which starts at €50,100. It comes with a 2.0-liter turbo engine making 345 HP and 370 Nm.
It's not slow, boasting a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds. But we'd still have a Golf R Variant or something else that's spicy. For that kind of cash, you can probably score a VW Passat with more room and power.
The only other allroad is the 45 TDI, which is a 3-liter diesel model with 231 HP. Besides the fuel, another difference consists of the TFSI using an S tronic twin-clutch versus an 8-speed automatic. The diesel also costs about €2,000 more.
Esthetics have changed quite a bit for 2020. The A4 allroad now sports a new bumper where te silver scuff plate grabs your attention. The Singleframe grille is also new and works nicely with these updated Matrix LED headlights inspired by the bigger A6. Around the back, they've updated the LEDs and added oversized, very fake exhaust tips.
Another key difference: the allroad rugged body kit is now glossed black, a change that debuted on the new A6 allroad. You don't even see that on Audi's SUVs. Inside, the model sports a new infotainment system that's controlled via touch.
