We've shown you a dark metallic grey S4 Avant a few days ago, and here's another member of the family that Audi brought to the launch event in Bolzano, Italy. When it comes to the quattro brand, you can always expect some cool footage from Auditography.
The color, Tornado Blue, isn't that unusual. In fact, we recently saw it on a pre-facelift model that got trampled by the Mercedes-AMG C43. But in combination with the new features of the car, it makes the S4 stand out.
Does anybody like Audi sedans anymore? If they do, the new grille and LED headlights are a nice combo. The front end also sports those three little vents just under the hood line, which are a tribute to the original Quattro.
Of course, bigger things have changed under the hood, things which completely change the S4 experience. The 3-liter V6 powering the sports sedan is now a mild-hybrid diesel unit with two turbochargers and an electric compressor, much like the SQ7. This puts out 347 HP and, more importantly, 700 Nm of torque, which is the same as a 4.0 TFSI.
The performance is a bit underrated as well. While Audi rates it at 0 t0 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, the sports sedan actually does it in 4.66 seconds. The sound is obviously fake, but it's also more muscular than the old S4.
We were curious how much of the exhaust is fake since Audi is doing this more and more. And as you'll see in the photo gallery, only the pipes on the left are real. This is much the same as the Skoda Octavia RS TDI.
Unfortunately, the weight has also increased by about 100 kilograms. Besides the heavier diesel block, this is due to an air-cooled lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.5 kWh, which is located under the luggage compartment floor and acts as an energy management center. The mild-hybrid system on the S4 models has the potential to reduce customer fuel consumption by up to 0.4 liters per 100 kilometers, which by the way sits at .2 l/100 km (45.6 mpg UK) combined.
