It's safe to say that Toyota achieved what it wanted with the new Corolla/Auris hatchback, a flashy car with plush interior. The performance will be repeated by this all-new, 2nd-generation Auris Touring.
We've seen quite a few interesting new wagons this year, such as the 2019 Kia Ceed. However, none of them have made it Stateside, and this is likely to be the case with the Auris Wagon... Touring (that's what it's officially called).

As it usually happens with these models, styling stays the same to about the B-pillar. That's why the new Auris Touring is sporting some fancy LED headlights and even a body kit that includes impractical side skirts. A pronounced shoulder line draws us closer to the back end, where we see the opening of the trunk is much bigger.

Since the wheelbase of the hatch has grown by 40mm over its predecessor, we expect ample room for the rear passengers and at least 550 liters of trunk space, making it one of the most practical in its class.

The interior will be virtually the same, featuring soft-touch materials and brightly colored leather. An 8-inch infotainment with Android, wireless charger, and 7-inch TFT display will be welcome upgrades over the old Auris Touring.

And thanks to the TNGA platform, it should ride pretty well too, though we don't expect hot wagon performance here. While 100% of the compact wagons in Europe at least offer a diesel engine, that won't be the case here.

The Auris hatch was launched with a choice between two hybrid systems, offering around 120 or 180 HP. Also, a 1.2-liter turbo is also on its way, the only unit that will be offered with a manual gearbox.

While Toyota signed a partnership with BMW which gave it access to TwinPower diesel engines, demand is dropping in Europe right now. Also, the bigger Avensis touring will be discontinued, leaving only this Auris as a load-lugger.
