We've been talking about the production version of the 992 Porsche 911 for a month now, since the thing made its debut in late November, at the Los Angeles Motor Show. However, Zuffenhausen has yet to deliver the road-going swansong for the 991.2 generation, namely the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster.
Nevertheless, as you can see in the spyshots we have here (there's a sighting in the Instagram photo below, while we added previous spyshots to the gallery above), prototypes already showcase the production design.

With the 997-gen Speedster, Porsche used the GTS models as a starting point. This time around, things are even sweeter, as the newcomer is based on the GT3. So yes, we can talk about a GT Division model with a cloth top.

Speaking of the roof, this seems to have maintained the design of its predecessor. However, since we're talking about something that looks like a work of art, we have no reasons to complain.

The GT3 roots means the posterior of the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster will be occupied by a naturally aspirated flat-six that revs to 9,000 rpm. The unit delivers 500 hp on the GT3 and 520 horses on the GT3 RS, but we're not sure about the Speedster output - keep in mind that the unit should also serve the upcoming 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Boxster Spyder, albeit in a detuned state that should see its output sitting closer to 400 hp.

The German carmaker will only bring 1948 units of the Speedster to the world. This is a tribute to the original Porsche 356 “Number 1” that received its operating license on June, 8 1948.

The rumor mill also talks about Zuffenhausen releasing a GT3 Cabriolet as a Speedster for the "masses", but we wouldn't hold our breath for such a development. For one thing, it would involve the GT Division actually putting its badge on a soft top model...
