With Porsche introducing the 992 incarnation of the 911 at the Los Angeles Motor Show last week, the mainstream audience focused on the eight-generation model. However, Porschephiles also looked past the 2020 Carrera (4)S, since the 991.2 generation is still receiving its swansongs. And one of them landed in LA, in the form of the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.
We're talking about the circuit-only version of the 2RS, with the German automotive producer only set to bring 200 units of the beast to the world.
And until wet te to meet the racetrack tamer in real life, we've brought along a pair of renderings to help pass the time.
The pixel play, which comes from digital artist Jonsibal, a 911 owner himself, portray the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport in two new liveries. Both bring the Martini take, but while one uses White as a base color, the other turns to Black for this role.
The Clubsport maintains the 700 horsepower twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six heart of the street car. Nevertheless, there are two main areas where the thing is improved.
For one thing, the racecar is a full 150 kilograms lighter, thanks to a carbon fiber diet (the road car already packs CF pieces, but the circuit toy takes the treatment to a whole new level).
Then there's the downforce, with the aero elements of the newcomer making the wing of the road vehicle appear normal.
The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is set to arrive in May next year, with homologation for international racing events set to take place meanwhile.
Returning to the point we made in the intro, there's another swansong that is set to make its debut soon. We're referring to the 2019 911 Speedster.
Unlike in the case of the 997-generation Speedster, which was based on the GTS, the newcomer is set to use the GT3 as a starting point. And who doesn't love naturally aspirated Neunelfers?
