In 1966, Ford beat Ferrari at what it did best back then: endurance racing. After that mind-boggling 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans, the Blue Oval trumped the wits and the pace of the Prancing Horse once again at the world’s oldest active endurance race in 2016.
This, then, calls for a celebration. And that celebration is a special edition of the not-yet-ready-for-production 2017 Ford GT. Introducing the 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition, the spiritual successor of the GT40 P/1046 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 at the hands of Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren.

Yes, that particular Bruce McLaren from New Zealand whose name lives on in Formula 1 and in certain road-going cars such as the fan-bleeding-tastic McLaren P1 LM“Celebrating the anniversary of Ford’s historic victories at Le Mans has always been a part of the return of the Ford GT,” commented Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president of product development and chief technical officer.

“The 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition is a stunning tribute to the car that kicked off Ford’s string of Le Mans victories in 1966,” concluded Nair. Inspired by its legendary predecessor, the Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition prides itself on an exterior paintwork that goes by the name of Shadow Black. Available in either gloss or matte finish, the paint job is complemented by silver striped and exposed carbon fiber bits and bobs.

The hood and door graphics are dubbed Frozen White #2 and the final piece of the puzzle comes in the form of 20-inch one-piece forged aluminum wheels. This may not be the most popular of opinions, but the wheels look as if a boy racer bought something off eBay, especially in that disgusting satin gold finish.

Inside, you’ll be welcomed by a serialized identification plate, carbon fiber seats wrapped in Ebony leather, head restraints and steering wheel debossed with the Ford GT logo, gold appliques, and blue webbing on the seat belts. The ’66 Heritage Edition will be available in limited quantities for the 2017 MY only.
