At the present moment, the cheapest model in the Camaro range is the 1LT Coupe 2.0L Turbo, which starts from $27,595. But by the mid-model year 2017, the Chevrolet Camaro will be offered in a cheaper configuration, which will be known as the Camaro 1LS.
This info comes courtesy of our friends at GM Authority, who cite the order guide for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro 1LS will be available in Coupe and Convertible forms, with pricing set from $26,900 and $32,900, respectively. A 6-speed stick shift is the only tranny available, though.

Not only is it $695 cheaper than the 1LT, but the 1LS features the same 2.0-liter Turbo LTG four-cylinder engine as the more costly sibling. Looking through the RPO codes in the order guide for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, the document also reveals that the 3.6-liter N/A LGX V6 can be had for $1,495, as long as you’re okay with a manual transmission. Hence, the Camaro 1LT is now exclusively available with the GM 8L45 Hydra-Matic 8-speed automatic.

In terms of performance, the 2.0 LTG and 3.6 LGX develop 275 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) and 335 hp and 284 lb-ft (385 Nm). When it comes down to standard equipment, the Camaro 1LS is a no-frills pony car. Be that as it may, creature comforts such as single-zone automatic climate control, 7-inch MyLink infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 18-inch wheels, parking camera, as well as OnStar 4G LTE and SiriusXM are on the menu.

Chevrolet has yet to comment on why it will introduce the 1LS to the Camaro range as the entry-level offering, but chances are this has to do with market dynamics. What I’m referring to is that Ford is having a hard time selling the Mustang, especially now that the 2018 model year refresh is just around the corner. In addition to that, Chevrolet sold more Camaros than Ford sold Mustangs last month. The last time that happened was in October 2014.
