The Suzuki Jimny is old. It’s an 18-year-old design and it certainly shows its age. I should know because I fell in love with a 1.3-liter model so much during a test drive, I was sad to return it back to Suzuki. But then again, I can’t deny that I’m looking forward to the all-new generation, slated to debut sometime in 2016.
Until that moment finally comes, Suzuki prepared something of a farewell for the current Jimny. It’s a special edition christened the Adventure and I can’t think of a better name to define this 4x4’s character. 200 units are available in the United Kingdom, priced at £14,949 (or $21,155 at the current exchange rates).

It’s a little on the pricey side considering that the Jimny starts at £12,499 (or $17,685), but the 2016 Suzuki Jimny Adventure does get all the bells and whistles. Based on the range-topping SZ4, the Adventure adds satellite navigation with Bluetooth for your mobile phone, spare wheel cover, and two-tone paint (Quasar Grey with Pearl White Metallic).

Equipment carried over from the SZ4 trim level includes 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, rear privacy glass, and heated seats wrapped in synthetic leather. On the mechanical front, the Suzuki Jimny Adventure comes with a rudimentary but capable 4x4 system. Drive to the rear wheels when you’re driving around town, drive to all four when you’re venturing off the beaten path. Nothing more and nothing less.

Under the hood, the Jimny is motivated by a 1.3-liter engine with variable valve timing and 16 valves. It’s a small displacement, I agree, and the Jimny feels underpowered at times. But then again, you don’t need more to have fun in an off-road donkey that weighs just 2,403 pounds (1,090 kilograms). If you’re in the market for personality, skip the supermini and crossover and test drive the Jimny. It will surprise you.
