Renault has chosen the 2016 Geneva Motor Show to reveal the new station version of the latest Megane.
The French brand will publicly unveil the new body style of the fourth-generation Megane in March, but has published two official photos of the car on its media website.

The first version of the Megane Estate/Sport Tourer that will be showcased by Renault is the Estate GT one, which features the 4Control four-wheel steering system. Thanks to this, the Megane Estate GT will be the only compact station wagon in the world to feature four-wheel steering. Until recently, such a feature was unheard of in the world of volume cars, as it was rare even for sports cars.

Along with the segment-first four-wheel steering system, the Megane Estate will also pride itself on another achievement - it will have the segment’s longest maximum load length as standard, which, unlike the 4Control system reserved only for the GT version, will be available for all versions.

The French brand’s officials have left out specific details about this particular feature, but other manufacturers will eventually catch up with the trunk space thing. However, we do not expect to see the four-wheel steering system in any other volume car shortly, as Renault seems to be the only volume car maker that puts its faith in such technologies.

Naturally, the new Megane Estate is based on the fourth generation Megane five-door hatchback. Like its predecessor, the Megane Estate features an elegant and sporty design. Unlike the previous generation, the Estate version no longer overshadows the hatchback in design, as the Mk 3 Megane Sports Tourer was thought by many to have a better styled rear end when compared to its hatchback sibling.

Once the new model is fully revealed next week, we’ll have more photos of the car to show you, including of its roomy interior. Naturally, the Megane Estate will borrow its dashboard from the hatchback version of the French compact car, so there will be no surprises there.
